With their feet firmly planted in rhythm & blues from the middle of the 20th century, "Pay Day" takes the topical and innovative blues safely into the 2020s. The world is changing and there is plenty to sing about; party and celebration, crisis-filled times, rootlessness and love. Lead singer and guitarist Oscar Mukherjee grew up in California and moved to Denmark as a teenager. He has been playing at Mojo Blues Bar since he was 15 years old, apprenticed with blues talents RonniBoysen and Rune Kjeldsen and has played in Austin, Texas. In 2018 and 2021 he was nominated for the DMA blues awards and in 2021 he took home the DMA statuette "out of the blue of the year". Together with Oscar, the band consists of drummer Asmus Jensen (Delta BluesBand and Omar & The Howlers), bassist Søren Bøjgård (ThorbjørnRisager) and genre-crossing guitarist Jakob Holm. Based on electric blues pioneers Jimmy Reed and Slim Harpo, rock n' roll icons Bo Diddley and The Fabulous Thunderbids, as well as country blues legends Mississippi John Hurt and Lightnin' Hopkins, "Pay Day" finds their very own place.
