Antonio Monasterio Ensamble is a boundary-pushing Chilean group that blends jazz, chamber music, and global rhythms into a deeply emotional and cinematic sound on flugelhorn, electric guitar, oud, drums, bass, and piano. Led by composer and multi-instrumentalist Antonio Monasterio, the ensemble creates rich musical narratives that reflect both the intensity of modern life and the introspection of the natural world. Known for their intricate arrangements and dynamic live performances, the group has toured extensively across Chile and internationally, including acclaimed shows in Asia. The band’s first album Centro y Periferia was released in 2018 and resulted in a nomination for Best Jazz and Fusion Artist at Chile’s 2020 Pulsar Awards. Their most recent recording, Las Furias y el Mar (2023), explores themes of identity, memory, and transformation, cementing their place as one of the most innovative projects on Chile’s contemporary music scene.
Project by composer Antonio Monasterio in a sextet format, born in 2016 in Valparaíso, Chile, aiming for a renewal in the approach to world music and jazz, focusing on timbre, form, and rhythm, which are a substantial part of this exploration. The syncretism of musical languages and compositional freedom permeates this project, seeking to make a contribution to world music and jazz in our country. The ensemble includes renowned musicians from Valparaíso, Santiago, and various musical backgrounds.
In 2019, the band introduced a new lineup and embarked on a new tour that took them across the Asian continent. South Korea, China, and Japan were the countries they visited, where they performed at important festivals and venues, such as Seoul Music Week and Jazz Tonic in South Korea, Meet in Beijing, DDC, Waves Music, Beijing University, and the Latin American Culture Festival (Beijing), as well as Shibuya Home and Nepo in Tokyo.
In 2023, the band released their second full-length album, 'Las Furias y el Mar' (Mescalina, 2023). With this work, the ensemble won the Pulsar Award 2024 for Best Jazz Fusion Artist and received their first international recognition at the WE:NOW International Arts Festival in Madrid
